Hello friends, we are going to present you this fantastic tutorial that, together with CARVER SKATEBOARDS, we have been able to share for those of you who are not sure which SURFSKATE best suits your needs.

To choose the board that most closely matches your way of carving, you must be clear about these 3 points:

  • Your measurements (weight and height)
  • Your surfing level and the boards you use in the water
  • Your surf style and where you are going to use your Carver

Depending on your measurements, you will need a larger or smaller Carver... an 8-year-old child, with little weight and little strength, needs a Snapper CX, Bean Bag CX or one of the new Tritons, which come with C5 axles, perfect for the smallest ones. A kid between 11 and 13 years old will be more comfortable with something like USA Booster CX or Pod Mod CX. On the other hand, for a very tall adult, a long and wide board will be better, so that their feet are well fixed, such as Knox Quill or Greenroom.

If you have a low level you will be using large, voluminous, stable surfboards. The same goes for your Carver. If you are a beginner you will be comfortable in a Greenroom, Riddler, Rad Ripper or similar, very stable and comfortable. On the other hand, if you have a good level you will enjoy small and nervous boards for radical maneuvers, like the USA Booster. A surfer who wants to get really technical has the Black Tip or the Super Surfer, while someone looking to do skate tricks should choose the Impala or the Bel Air. Here you have a comparison table between a surfboard and a Carver so you can find your ideal size. Remember that, like surfboards, it is important to have a good Carvers quiver to train all situations; fast maneuvers in small waves, big lines and powerful lines in big waves... Every magical surfboard you have at home will have a Carver with similar behavior for the asphalt.

Finally, your surfing style determines the type of board and trucks you are going to use. Do you like to flow through the city? The C7s are ideal, like surfing a single fin. Do you like fast, radical maneuvers, and vertical transitions in the bowl? then the CX are your axes. If you use 8 or 9 foot longboards on the water, you will love the Tyler 777 C7. If you like high performance thrusters try the New Flyer CX or the Resin CX. Do you enjoy a short twin fin with volume for small waves? Well, the Swallow C7 is going to amaze you. Are you looking for a machine for the bowl and the skatepark, to grind and score tricks? You need the C5 axles, which come standard on the Impala and Bel Air.

Carver factors to take into account

There are many factors that influence the behavior of your Carver, we will review them.

Deck Shape (Outline, Dimensions and Attributes)

  • Contour and concaves – Stability/Torsion
  • Width – Platform Surface Area / Foot Position
  • Long – Wheelbase and surf style
  • Nose Kick – Progression in tricks
  • Tail Kick – Progression in tricks or line transition
  • Distance between axis

Determine the radius of gyration

  • The greater the distance, the greater the stability at high speeds.
  • The shorter the distance, the greater the ease of Pumping / Responsiveness

Axles

C7

  • Looser / More flow
  • Single-fin surfboard
  • More adjustable

C.X.

  • Snappier / More Responsive, lighter
  • Like a Thruster or Quad shortboard
  • Less maintenance

Bushings

Carver has different sets of bushings, both spare parts for C7, C5 and CX and to completely change the behavior of your CX. There are four different configurations for your CX that play with the shape of the bushing (conical or cylindrical), the washer (flat or cup) and the hardness of the rubber. To summarize, you have some soft bushings, some medium and some hard, to tune your Carver to the millimeter and enjoy a perfect experience according to your surfing style!
